Yes definately you are right. These days they do need to do extra checks. However it is frustrating for us good honest hard working people that we have to wait so long. I just wish that their checks could be sped up.

As a comparison New Zealand took 6 months to process my husbands residency and this would have involved similar security checks after which they granted him permanent residency. Just unsure why Australia doing the same checks is taking that much longer.

Well at least it is a bit comforting to know that maybe the delay is just a bit more processing rather than a bad sign.

I hope you hear some good news soon! I think it must be yours and the Russian guys turn next that is for sure. But definately they do say yes to people from Russia as I bumped into some in the supermarket the other day happily chatting away in Russian. And they must accept many other cultures as Melbourne is just full of many many nationalities. It is just like London (a sunny one) which is great as I love the diverse cultures all blended together it makes life really interesting.

As a sideline it is amazing just how quick the kids become Australian. We have been here a month and already my six year old is saying he is Australian (I don't want to let him down and tell him Australia is still deciding whether he is or not!!!). But they sing the national anthem every week and teach them what it is to be good Australians. He seems to be really happy so lets hope they let him be a real Australian!
