When we flew out with singapore airlines earlier this month on a 457 visa, the travel agent checked to see if we could have any extra allowance, and she was told that we couldn't have the 40kg, but we would be allowed upto 25kg with no charge as we had a one way ticket. When we got to the airport at Manchester, although we had only packed necessities for ourselves and our 11 year old son, we still had estimated that we were over by about 15kg. We got a great girl at check in who asked us if we were migrating. I said that we weren't actually at this stage, but we were going over long term for employment. I then started saying how difficult it was to fit everything we needed for the next 6ish weeks into the cases, as this was when our shipment was expected. She checked in our bags, which came to 94kg in total, and didn't say a word! After our stop over in singapore, again on check in we got a lovely bloke who checked our baggage and didn't say anything!!! Guess we were just lucky, but nonetheless we were grateful. We already had made plan 'b' which was to send it boxed from the airport if need be! I don't suppose this helps many, but it shows that not all airport staff are ars** bug****!!!!!!!!
