Nowhere on earth is paradise, realise that and you'll probably make it in Australia!
My comments on reading the artivcle - out in the sticks they DO eat dinner at 5pm often - my husband no longer does now we live in Brissie, cos of work times, but when on holiday in England he was amazed that we didn't do lunch spot on midday, and dinner spot on 5pm. The idea of going out for dinner at 7 or 8 was a real shock to him! Car crash news-petrol prices-speed limits - all true, sorry, but it is. I get called Mate by people I have never seen before and never plan to see again - it has cheapened the idea of "mateship" as there is obviously no substance to it. Our bins have to be on the edge of the path or they are ignored - we don't have a ruler though! Life is sleepy, the suburbs are sprawling and go on for ever, the shoppong malls are characterless.
I like her point about the news - even my hisband commented after watching the UK news - in Aus, its Aus that is news - the world could have ended but Australia will still be debating whether a footballer put his knee too high in a match at the weekend.
Its actually a very trthful piece of writing - and like her, I like Aus, I live here, and though it doesn't feel that way yet, its my home. It ain't perfect though - it has as many faults as any other country, they are just different faults.
