Hi Mark, On the tourist visa application I was saying I will be visiting a friend as there is a spot where you have to fill out about the relationship between you and the person inviting you and believe I said the truth although it was deeper than that. But I cannot see any other way of visiting each other before you are 100 percent set on marriage if you tell them there is a romantic relationship involved. Maybe so if you are from a Working Holiday Visa eligible country but I wasn't. I spent about 10 months in Australia over 2 years on 2 tourist visas doing a lot of travelling but also renting a house together on the part of the last visa. When I re-applied I stupidly and truthfully told DIMIA about that and was refused another visa on the grounds that my reason of going to Australia was to get married and not to be a tourist. So even though we had a heap of tourist stuff planned like my diving certificate, snowboarding, friends' weddings and other stuff and showing enough funds to do so - I was turned down. Now I am waiting for my prospective marriage visa and with our supporting documents it seems there wouldn't be a problem if I was British or at least from some Western Europe country but being otherwise I have to wait months. I am not saying this to sound racist but if you look at the timelines closely there is a clear nationality differentiation although not officially admitted. From looking at another forum it seems people from Africa have pretty long timelines for a prospective spouse or spouse visa. As JAJ says if she gets a no further stay condition on her tourist visa it means you won't be able to get her another visa while in Australia and will have to apply offshore. I agree with Polyanna that they have to stop fake marriages but it makes it harder and harder on genuine relationships to the extent that you have to confess all your private life to them but after 4 months (or more) there is still no result. On the other hand I personnally know a person to whom a fake marriage with an American was a hell of a lot easier than the Australian way. Well, good luck and hope you will find a way.
