Hi guys
We emigrated here 4 years ago (Independant) and my daughter was 1 at the time with a heart defects. It sounds very similar to Steve's daugther. She has a valve defect adjacent to here heart which may need an operation later in life. I was worried like you Wendy and had our check-ups in Bristol. There was clearly a cost implication as far as the Oz government was concerned but the point was not even raised and the application flowed through DIMA. My daughter, now 5, has a check up every 6 months and is a slight burden on the system. My wife was very sceptical about moving but she is now clearly aware that the Australian lifestyle is second to none. We'd never go back to the UK so hang in there.
Your doctor has advised you of a future problem with a worst outcome, no one that is current or immediately imminent. I personally believe you. You could always try and see one of the approved doctors first and pay for some advise on the type of thing he will be looking for and how serious he would put this in a formal letter at the approporiate stage.
Steve, your daughters problem sounds just like my daughters, they have diagnosed it as Ebsteins Malformation, is that similar to yours?
Regards
Wayne
