Um, am also a newbie on the group, but don't tend to "lurk". Just read a few posts and jump right in.

Migrating with medical pension from Holland
My uncle Tim would like to migrate to Australia. He is 56 years old and currently receives a medical pension in Holland, because of back pains. His partner Joanna is Australian and Tim...

Born & raised American, here since the sixties. Married, no kids, by choice.

Why not, but why be shy? Australia very loveually liberal compared to USA, and probably UK.

Haven't been to Ireland or even the UK, but suspect that Australia is a lot more liberal than either.

Well, from a "civil service" point of view, anything "different" tends to be forwarded to immediate superior.

Ah then, a considerable advantage. "Family reunions" a big thing here!

Don't know, but someone will tell you if anything else required.

A "stat dec" here can be filed with any JP and is generally recognized.

Gill, thank you for you detailed advice. Please let me know if I understood what...

AFIK, stat decs should be ok, but some solicitor or lawyer in Oz can give better advice.

Doesn't matter. When in doubt in dealing with authorities, blitz them with information whether they ask for it or not....and send it registered air mail or security post, whatever you call it there with "return receipt requested" to the head of the department.

This avoids it getting "lost" or "mislaid" and you have some proof that he or his private secretary has actually received it.

Hi, Welcome to the madhouse!! There have been a couple of others on here going for the interdependency...

Besides, it implies that the matter is important to you. If I were to send you a post, wouldn't you be more impressed with a registered airmail letter or a cheap postcard? :-)

Obviously you haven't read my longer posts!

Personally, I would be have to be rather desperate to use an "agent". The quality can vary a lot.

Of course!

I don't even know if this is the group I should be posting on. Am from the US, not the UK, know little about current laws and regs, would probably be more useful if people wanted to know about actual conditions in Australia from someone who has spent more time here than in the USA.

Any suggestions?

Nope, sorry, no help here. Came here single, married here. Can give you a lot of info about life here though!

Cheers,
