Sorry to bother you guys again but this is a strange one that any help and advice from you would be greatly appreciated.
In September I was made redundant from my role with termination of my employment effective from 12th September 2005.
However I was then paid 3 months basic salary in lieu of notice and am unable to register as being unemployed until 12th December 2005.
The problem is that I am about to put in my main application to the DIMIA and I have concerns over the skills and experience requiring not more that 6 months unemployment in the last18 months.
1. Do I declare my leaving date from my last employer as being the date of termination or the date the lieu of notice ceases as technically I have not been unemployed until the 12th December has been reached.
If I declare the 12 September by the time my application is buttessed by a case officer I could in theory have been unemployed for more that 6 months.
If I do however declare the 12 December as the date will the DIMIA check with my former employer and if so they will declare that termination took place on the 12th September 2005. Thus causing a problem
It will not be a problem me finding alternative employment at the beginning of the new year,. however If I need to go to a new employer and say thanks for the job by the way can you give me a reference as I am migrating this may limit my employment options.
Options i have come up with
2. To declare the termination date of my last employment as 12th December and next to the reference from my former employer which is dated the 12 September 2005 place a covering letter detailing the differential in termination dates the reasons why and include a copy of the employment registration date from the job centre
3. declare the 12 September as the termination date and still place the above covering letter and unemployment notification letters next to the reference
4. What ever action I take I would upon finding alternative employment write to the DIMIA advising them of my new employer and include a copy of the offer letter and job description on letter headed paper but as indicated above I may not be able to provide a reference at this time.

Just on a side note how likely is the DIMIA to contact current and past employers for skill independent applicants as i have included them for the last 5 years.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated
