Tourist 676 Visa 142

I entered Australia with my son travelling on his Kiwi pbuttport (born in NZ) - he's also Australian and English by descent. Even though he is a citizen of Australia, (we were asked if he was so answered truthfully), we were pulled up heavily by Immigration at Melbourne Airport and told that our son should have an Australian pbuttport - and yes we were delayed while they checked his details and verified that he was in fact Australian (everyone else in our party entered on Australian pbuttports). I just hadn't got around to getting him the Australian pbuttport given he had two others to pick from and the Kiwi one gave him access to Australia anyway. This didn't go down well - trivial to me at the time but Immigration didn't view it that way at all.

I don't know about the legalities of your situation - I suspect that with a certificate of Australian citizenship in your hand, they're unlikely to turn you away (although I would buttume that they have the right to). A pbuttport is what facilitates travel between country borders, not a certificate of citizenship as I understand it.

I wonder if any of you kind souls could give me any suggestions? I am hoping to have my 139 visa towards the end...

That said, if you have a valid RRV in your British pbuttport, I figure they'd just stamp you in anyway?

Personally I'd get the pbuttport as someone else has suggested (especially after my own run-in with immigration) - it's valid 10 years after all and the fee is only ever going to go up. Pbuttports can be issued swiftly if required for urgent travel.

If you do choose to re-enter on your British pbuttport, ensure you have a watertight reason for not organising an Australian pbuttport for your travels - you will almost certainly be grilled over it back here.
