Hi all. The Wife, baby and my good self are currently entering the 3rd week of our validation trip to Sydney and...

Hi Kaushala

To avoid doing the RPL application for ACS where you also need two project reports, you must have certain % of IT content in your degree. Depending on the amount, you may only need 4 years IT experience but I presume you would need the 6 years or maybe need to do the RPL.

To only require 4 years of IT experience, your degree needs a major in IT (GROUP A).

ACS guidelines state:

As a guide, a major in a Bachelor degree must have a minimum of two equivalent full-time semesters of IT content. Such IT content must progress through all years of the program with at least one third of it being at a demonstrably advanced level (final year level).

To require 6 years of IT Experience but no RPL and Project reports, your degree needs a minor (sub-major) in IT (GROUP B)

ACS guidelines state:

As a guide for a minor (sub-major) for a Bachelor degree the IT content must be at least 20%.

So you need to to work out if you can come under Group A or B, this will then tell you how much IT experience you require. IF you are under 30 when you apply for your visa, you would be eligible for 120 points (with 20 points for English) and get a visa regardless of whether there was a shrotage or oversupply of IT skills. IF aged between 30 and 34, you could still get 120 if your spouse was send and met basic requirements and-or your degree was studied in a community language other than English. Don't waste your time and money with the Agent in Sri Lanka if that is an example of his advice.
