My girlfriend and I have been talking about the possibility of moving to Australia or NZ (but probably prefer Oz). She is a registered nurse so should have no problem finding work. She is 33 years old, originally from Kenya but working in UK for about 4 years now.
I'm a UK citizen aged 26 and have been working as a telecommunications technician since leaving secondary school. I completed an Apprenticeship which included a BTEC National Certificate in Electronics and Computing, but did not continue my education beyond that.
Neither of us own any property or significant buttets, but have about £18,000 in savings between us. My parents can provide an extra £10,000 if it makes any difference.
We plan to spend at least 4-5 weeks visiting both oz and NZ in the next 6 months to get a general feel for the countries.
My question is; If we like either country after our initial visits, it is worth applying for residence under the send migrant programme, or would we be wasting our time and money?
If it is worth trying, is is better to use an immigration consultant or go it alone? As we are not married nor co-habiting would it be best to apply individually?
Sorry for so many questions, but I've read so much information on the internet which appears to make it look easy, but I'm sure it's not so easy in real life!
