You are on a temporary resident visa so yes employers view you with a more negatively. I can see the employers point of view because a lot of employers have been left high and dry by travelers that have temporary work visas who just up and leave.
I don't offer anymore information than needed. In the begining I tried the honesty approach and could see the look on their faces change when I said I was a temporary resident. So now if they ask I always say I'm a permanent resident. If they call me on it and want to see the visa I say as far as I'm concerned I'm here permanently. And for what it's worth if they push for verification you have nothing to loose by saying you're a PR because they have no intension of hiring you anyways.
We on the SIR visas are trapped in the middle wanting to stay and make a life here but employers are skeptical because of the horde of travelers so I do what ever I need to do to get by and get that magic one years worth of work so I can become a real person (because here SIR visa holders have just slightly more rights and privaleges than illegal aliens).
As for the work you do it's up to the state as to whether they will accept you when you apply for PR. Some may say no because you came in as this but you did this. Others may not care what you do. Your fate may come down to a guy who's had a bad and day and decides he doesn't like you so he rejects your application. I wont buttume anything, though I don't like my trade I'll stay with it so I don't make it easy for those who will decide my fate to kick me out. I guess we'll see what's going to happen when the first SIR visa holders hit the end of their two year period and apply for PR.
