No disrespect, but I would have to check this very carefully, as my budget is extremely tight and if I turned up to start my new job, provisional to getting rego, they may turn around and say something like ,"OK that should all go through in a few months". Well, I need to start work within a few days of getting off a plane because I can't afford not to, and I've been told that I won't be able to start my job without it (even though you obviously can in the UK). I've got the Summer to seek advice and clarification, and if your approach works in my case, then I will do just that. Having said that, I was told that current delays are a recent problem and are being looked into.
To confirm what you said, I was also advised to register with NSW as they are currently much quicker, and like you said, that would speed things through with Qld.
Either way, I'm not too bothered about having to wait, as I have unfinished business here in the UK, and it would give me time to save more money.
