I had that problem with the number - but then I discovered that I was trying to put the wrong number in - its quite a while ago that I did it so really can't remember what I did exactly but I suggest you check through your documents details again. as for scanned documents I sent for myself and my partner: --birth certificates for both of us --certificates of qualifications (e.g. degree certificates) - this was only needed for me as the principle applicant --my CV --some utility bills that showed my partner and I had been living together (obviously marriage certificates are all you need if married) -- pbuttports (not the whole thing just the bit with your photo and details on) all of these (except CV) I photocopied - had certified by the local solicitor and then scanned and sent with the application.
Just a hint - but when you fill in the on-line application, make sure that you don't close ANY windows that are on the screen because this will close the lot of them. I did this and the application closed down before I had attached the scanned documents (though this was no big deal in the end anyway).
Best of luck with it, Juanita
