Ok you get an ETA as you are from the USA an eta is valid for 12 months from grant but you can only stay 3 months at a time, if you went to new Zealand for a day then came back you get another 3 months and so on. thats the best way around it with out ending up with a 8503.
Do you really want to fly all the way back to USA then stress to get prospective marriage visa fly back then redo all forms again here?
If your on a ETA from certain country's your allowed to summit your forms onshore here in Australia. going into a nice empty DIMA office here or a busy overseas embbutty.
As your from the USA you can summit here in Australia so why dont you get married now submit your forms onshore once you submit you get it straight away if all forms are done or go on a bridging visa so you are still lawfully in Australia.
