Hi Tracey Anne The following link takes you to info on the temporary regional 457 visa.
I am currently trying to migrate to regional aus and as far as I can gather the general principle is that the applicant is expected to commit to living and working in regional Aus. If you are to live apart from your spouse this may indicate to the Immi Dept that your husband is not committed to this. the SIR is quite specific in saying : "If you apply for a Send - Independent Regional (Provisional) visa, you will be required to sign an undertaking that you, and members of your family unit included in the application, will live, and work or study, in a regional or a low population metropolitan area in Australia, gazetted at the time your visa is granted, for the duration of your visa". I know its not the same visa but maybe the same principles apply?

One more point to bear in mind is that if you are living apart your marriage may, in the eyes of DIMIA, have a question mark over it with regard to validity for migration purposes. Certainly for spouse type visa the relationship is examined, and generally if the applicant leaves Aus the spouse and dependants have to also, as they don't have a freestanding visa but one that is dependant on the applicant and their relationship to-with him or her. I would get some serious advice from a migration agent before making any decisions on this.
Hope this helps. Most of the information gleaned here has been from the immi.gov.au website if you need to do further research. PJMB
