Hi Lesade

I know how worried you must be and my heart goes out to you, lovey, but at the moment you do not know for sure whether or not you have diabetes because you have not yet seen your GP. No matter how likely it might be, it is NOT a definite diagnosis at this stage.

If it is diabetes (and if not then whatever it actually is) will have to be declared to the PD at your meds. He-she will find out anyway from your urine sample.

However, you only submitted your application at the end of July, so it could easily be another 5 or more months before you hear from a Case Officer asking you to go and have your meds done. That is plenty of time in which to prepare for the meds. If your GP needs to refer you to a specialist, that can be done and you will be able to ask the specialist for a report that you can give to the Panel Doctor. Also, the medics are bound to start treating whatever this is promptly, so your sugar levels are likely to be a lot lower by the time you see the Panel Doctor as well. In which case the specialist's report will say how well you are responding to the treatment, won't it?

Loads and loads of people with diabetes - many of them injecting insulin - have been accepted for migration to Oz. More than you could shake a stick at. I'm not a medic, but as I understand it, what the Medical Officer of the Commonwealth really wants to see is that the diabetes is well-controlled and is not threatening the person's health in other ways, plus it is not preventing them from doing a full day's work in whatever their occupation happens to be.

I think that if you can stick rigidly to whatever the medics tell you to do by way of diet, exercise etc, you are likely to be in pretty good shape by the time you see the Panel Doctor. That's nearly half a year away yet, and you now have the best incentive on the planet to do your level best to help to bring this condition of yours under control, haven't you?

So please try not to worry more than you really can't avoid. You've got everything to play for here and nothing to lose, hunny.

Best of luck

Gill
