This is our first post at BE.....we can't believe that we never found this site whilst going through the spouse visa (309) process. Even in the last week of reading through the posts, the people here have answered many of our questions already.....so thanks a lot to everyone :)
Ok, Louise (Aussie) and I (Brit) have been together for about 5 years now and in that time we have both done a lot of flying back and forth between Oz and the UK. I'm in a position that I can spend a lot more time in Oz than Louise can in the UK, I've already been to Oz four times in the last 5 years and lived there for about 2 of those years. Anyway, we decided that I should apply for residency back in February this year.....which we did and I was granted a spouse visa (309) last July. My initial entry date is for the end of September so I'll be flying out very soon, but we both plan to return to the UK next June for a holiday.
Due to some other circumstances, in the short term I will need to continue to return to the UK on occasion but I would like to become a permanent resident in Oz and then eventually a Citizen. We realise that my visa will allow me to come and go at will, but is there anything we should know that might endanger a permanent visa being granted? We've seen that some PRV's won't be granted unless the applicant has been in Oz for 730 days but we're unsure if that same rule applies to spouse visas?
So in a nutshell.....its cost us a lot of time and money to get this far and we realise that travelling back and forth is not ideal but we are very much together in a genuine relationship despite the hardships. We don't want to make any silly mistakes that might mess things up, so are there any pitfalls we should avoid or any advice that someone could give that would help us achieve our eventual aim of PR for me.
Thank you for taking the time to read all of the above and for any replies.
Andy-n-Louise :)
