Stick at the accountancy Jason. I'm sure the Uni would be willing to discuss the CPA-ICAA requirements with you. Once you have your CPA-ICAA you can then apply onshore-although be warned, it's a rocky road.
I don't think send work experience is likely to be introduced for graduate send visas. The whole idea of these visas is to enable students to apply for PR. On a student visa you have to study and you have to apply for PR within 6 months of finishing your course. It would then make it an experienced send visa rather than a graduate send visa. Having said that some occupations already require work experience. However the education providers usually work this into the course. That way the students can do the work experience while their still studying.
For you tho, you don't need to worry about work experience. Just get yourself qualified as an accountant.
A couple of other points: The Uni will probably recognise some of your prior learning. Therefore you may be able to shorten your course. However for onshore migration you need a 2 year course. This is a double edged sword. You could potentially apply for PR quicker but would have to do so offshore.
You could look at qualifynig in the UK first and then migrating.
If you have relatives in Australia it would help
Any suggestions Sender: Andy & CarlaHi We're new to the site (although have spent hours reading other posts - oh how I wish I could write "I got it" too!!!). We thought we had it all sorted...
Why Sydney? its dirty and crowded. Job prospects might be better but the cost of living is a lot higher too. Check out some of the other areas, Melbourne is the financial capital, Brisbane has nice weather. The gold coast is full of sleaze. Country areas are nice if you want the quiet life.
Good luck

Thanks Tony,
Think rocky is an understatement - Oz immigration laws send my tiny brain into spins! There is certainly some risk that guidelines may change before I graduate, but I feel the qualification would stand me in good stead regardless.
I'm looking into the particulars of the course re. prior credits, but priority is really just finalising acceptance and gettingthe visa for a July start - to ensure I graduate at 29 not 30. I picked sydney as I lived there for a year and know I love it - old friends, big financial centre to work on for experience and lots of surfing beaches!
Cheers. J
