Hi there, Great forum! We are mid-application for a PR and hope to go next year and planning a reccy this December 2005.

We are heading for Sydney as I'm an IT contractor and this is where most of this work seems to be focused, plus we loved the place when we did our working holiday many years ago.

It's a big place and would appreciate any pointers on where to live, suburbs etc as its quite daunting looking at the map and trying to decide where to go.

We are a family of 4, (children 4 & 1), so we would be looking for something commutable (max 1 hour by train-car-bus) and really want to live near the sea (good family beaches - not too full of surfy dudes). Other requirements would be good schools, somewhere safe (within reason!) and a good local town for shops-cafe's etc....things to do for kids....

We seemed to be drawn to the north-east coast...Dee Why etc...but really not sure sure where to head for (hence the reccy)...and advice from first hand experiences would be most welcome so we can make the best of our time out there checking things out...
