Some excellent advise here.

I lived in Australia for a couple of years but it still took us a couple more yearsback in the UK before we decided on applying for PR.

Sounds like things are going well for you and at least you visited before taking the plunge. I can't believe that some people still make a life changing decision to emigrate even when they've NEVER actually been there!!? Having said that even going there on holiday doesn't give you a full appreciation of what a place is like to live and work in. When we had visitors from the UK when we lived in Australia I can't remember how many times I said "its not like being on holiday", but I'm sure they took no notice.

Don't get me wrong Australia is a fantastic place to live and one of the main reasons we've decided to go back is because we can't think of a better place to bring up our children, however, no matter what anyone says, its a LONG way from anywhere, and if you're used to having lots of close friends and family around you then you're in for a shock. In fact the family issue is still one that concerns us, having a young family, its going to be difficult on the Grandparents.

Take the advice here and have a plan B, you may never imagine coming back after you leave, but it may just happen. One of the best things we did when we were in Australia was to keep our house here, and when we go this time (if we get the visa!!), I'd imagine we'll rent it out for at least 12 months until we're positive that we're staying.
