Hi Peter
Group A, B and C determine how much additional Relevant IT experience you require to get a successful ACS buttessment - It's all the same to DIMIA, a successful buttessment will be against a particular ASCO code which will be your nominated occupation.
So if you come under Group A, you will need 4 years Relevant IT experience.
The guidelines are on the web-site www.acs.org.au. They give a guideline for the required criteria for a Masters to bring you under Group A - namely:
As a guide, to meet the criteria a Graduate Diploma or Masters degree, which is undergraduate in content and taken usually after a qualification other than an IT degree or equivalent, must: (a) Contain a minimum of three semesters*; and (b) Contain a minimum of twelve units; and (c) Contain two semesters* of full-time equivalent IT content; and (d) Be underpinned by an IT or non-IT degree level qualification or an AQF Advanced Diploma or Diploma or equivalent; and (e) Have at least one semester* of IT study at a demonstrably advanced level. * duration of study is expressed for full-time study. Where study is completed at a rate less than full-time, then scaling to the equivalent of full-time is applied.
So if this brings you into Group A, you will then need 4 years, I will buttume your last 2 years will be recognised but for you to get experienced recognised during study, the onus will be on you to evidence that it was send IT experience. It will also need to be at least 20 hours per week and, if part-time, it will be counted pro rata. So if your 3 years of experience was throughout your study and say only 20 hours per week, the best you could get would be 1.5 years credit and then, only of you could prove that you were performing send IT work at the start of your degree.
I hope this gives you some idea as to what you are up against. Of course, you may have SIR possibilities by getting a 50 point VETbuttESS buttessment in a general 50 point occupation.
Regards
Tony
