OH is plumber-corgi registered gas engineer in the UK and he has always had to register for his gas tickets both annually and every five years do resits of his gas knowledge and he must pbutt 100% to continue working as such in the UK. Also he registers with JIB PMES as advanced craft plumber showing his health and safety training to work on sites etc. All work carried out on properties now must be registered with relevant bodies also i.e. via corgi for gas and via local authority for anything else and last I heard you must be registered electrician in the UK too to carry out installation registration of electrical work.
When he moves to Oz he is well aware that he will be taking time out to learn the Australian water regulations building regulations health and safety requirements and to apply for his licences - this is not new news!
There is a very good reason for this - SAFETY!! Anyone could turn up in a new country and say they are qualified - you must be out of your head if you think they are going to take your word for it!!
I do believe most tradies have the common sense to be aware of this - and the more intelligent of them will have researched this before going to the other side of the world!
