Hi there. We arrived in March. Prior to leaving the UK we booked a holiday rental North of Perth for 2 weeks. In those 2 weeks we went to the real estate offices every day to look for rentals, This meant driving past the houses, and if you liked any of them, then making an appointment to view. If you then liked any, you had to put an application in, and this took 4 days to be approved. So we managed to find one, and moved into the new one the day we moved out of our holiday rental. There are alot of people looking for rentals. The agents cant credit check you if you are from the UK, so you need to provide some sort of evidence that you would be good tenants, in other words why the agents would pick you as opposed to others who have applied for the same property. If you can bring references with you to show to the agents, perhaps mortgage statement to show you pay on time, character references or something, it all helps to get to the top of the queue. We brought a copy of our sales particulars of our house in the UK showing pictures of the house inside and out. The agents said afterwards that this was the thing that swung it for us, as the house looked lovely, tidy and clean.
Some other people we met went for a house, and he wasnt working yet, so they had to show a copy of their bank statement proving he had enough money to pay the rent.
Another thing that seems to be favourable is if you can pay 6 months rent up front. All agents we went to asked us if we could do this.
