Hello All
I wonder if someone can help me out here?
I have been in OZ on a 457 visa for 3 months on an employee sponsorship deal. My employee sponsorship is due to expire after 6 months and I am told this is because I cannot continue to be paid in the UK after 183 days. Apparently after this timeframe double taxation comes into play and this starts to get complicated.
My wife is also on my 457 and has just got a job. We are thinking that we might want to stay for a while longer, maybe another 6 months despite the lousy weather :) (Who said it never rained in OZ?)
Can someone explain to me in very simple terms what our best options would be here and give me a quick explanation of how the double taxation rule works?
I took a peak at the inland revenue site but things started getting way to complex for me.
How difficult is it for my company to extend this period could I simply come back to the UK for a certain timeframe after my 457 expires and come back to OZ with a new 457 and another employee sponsorship deal and continue the same agreement, paid in the UK. If so how long would I have to be back in the UK for?
Also another question, we were told that my visa would expire as soon as my employee sponsorship ends, is this true? we have messed up here as we were told by the immigration agents my company used that our visa was valid for 8 months when in fact this is not the case due to the employee sponsorship ending after 6 monthd. We booked flights according to the 8 month visa as opposed to the employee sponsorship timeframe and it will cost a fortune to change them. Can someone please verify this?
Thanks in advance
Richard
