I am seriously considering doing a Grad Dip in Computing (perhaps followed by an MSc in Information Technology if I have enough funds) in Australia next year. I've been interested in migrating to Australia for the last 2 years, but although I have worked constantly in IT for the last 6 years, my undergraduate degree was in something else (Dutch!). As far as I can see it, this means that I don't stand a chance of getting my skills buttessed by the ACS, even with an RPL.
I'm 31 and have enough money put aside to do at least one year's study comfortably plus I have somewhere to stay immediately (with an old mate of mine) in Sydney, so a lot of the guess work has already been taken away.
However, my worry is that I might be throwing money down a drain here. My view is that I am investing something in Australia in order to get something back.. but is there anyone on this forum who can suggest if this could be an expensive and risky mistake? Or is there anyone who has done something similar and can share their experiences?
I figure that if everything goes horribly wrong, also, any qualification would also presumably be recognised in Europe and North America?
Much obliged.
