Im Aussie also and my fiance ( in Scotland ) and I just applied for our Prospective Marriage Visa. We frontloaded everything and had ours approved within two weeks. The only reason we didnt get it approved sooner was because we didnt realise he needed a certificate of convictions for when he was in the navy as well as a police check, so had to wait an extra week to get that. Anyway, he had his medicals done and they were sent by the Panel Doctor to London about 3 weeks before we sent the application in. They hold onto any medicals without file numbers on them and then marry them up once the application is received. Once we had received all his birth marriagedivorce and police certificates we sent them all to London with his application and of course the payment details.
The other alternative is to get his medical done and send your application in as soon as your ready with an accompanying letter stating you are waiting on your police check and will forward it to them as soon as you receive it. That way you will at least have a file number and a case officer to send it to once you get it. Not only that, the case officer will look through your application and advise you if anything else is required, which is better to find out now, as it gives you time to obtain it.
