Can I please start my reply by saying I am not a panel doctor! But I suppose the answer is.... it depends.

If you have any ongoing health issues or serious previous health issues managed by your GP it may be worth having something from your GP just spelling out what happened or is happening and whether or not things are stable now and if you're on any medication. (examples that spring to mind but there are many more are blood pressure problems, obesity, women's health issues, depression-anxiety). The panel doctor and DIMIA are not, on the other hand, going to to be interested in having a letter from your GP regarding your consultation for a viral illness 10 years ago. So it really does depend!

If you have any medical history which does or did involve a hospital specialist your options are a report from the specialist, or a report from the GP about what the specialist said (but this may not be enough on its own depending on the condiion) or copies of letters from specialists (GPs can charge for these things)

If you're unsure you could make an appointment to talk to your GP about it. Bear in mind depending on the GP this may not happen in a "normal" routine surgery appointment (this is not covered by normal NHS services)and it may well be a private appointment and your GP is enbreastled to charge you for this and for any letters produced. It really depends on individual surgeries and GPs how they charge for and organise these things. Also bear in mind that depending on the surgery you may have to wait a few days-weeks for this, so if you think you need something I'd get on with it now!

Best of luck

Madhu
