QUOTE=vb2hi, you will need to have the birth certificate and all your other documents, photocopied by a lawyer, you cannot photocopier it yourself and have someone sign it for you, that is why they are "certified copies" the lawyer copies them himself so he knows and has seen the original document. As for the birth certificate situation - an original is obviously better, in the UK our babies do not have to registered for 6 weeks after birth, therefore it would give you time to obtain a new birth certificate and have it certified??? If you have gotten along with the one in your possession ok, then i cant see why it would cause problems if it has come from an official place to start with.

Sorry to say vb2 but your wrong! you can copy the documents yourself as long as the lawyer (or the better English name solicitor) has the originals in front of him at the time of signing. This is the rout my Wife and I took which the solicitor appreciated due to him having to certify over 40 documents. This saved time and money in-fact he asked for only five pounds!!!!
