Shell I know its so painful to lose a beloved pet but I cant help but feel that this would have happened anyway and it was far better for it to happen with you there in the UK than on his own in his quarantine kennel.
I use to work as a veterinary nurse and know that quarantine can be stressful enough on any pet but that would be magnified if your dog wasnt in good health.
They are your best friend aren't they?
The saddest euthanasia I ever witnessed was this old and very composed retired school teacher had her terrier who was 18 years old put to sleep.
Totally restrained, she cradled that little dog and said 'thank you for being my dog', and very silently wept for him.
Why NOT contact DIMIAI say yes contact them. I've contacted them at least 30 times since I started this journey over a year ago. I've yet to...
I remembered that and said that to my cat when I lost her.
So allow yourself to grieve for your dog because everyone has the right to grieve for a friend.
And dont forget to thank him for being your dog because although you have lost him, you wont have to look far to remember how he was.
And also, thank God that it didnt happen in transit or in unfamiliar surroundings or country.
Love Samantha (who despite being qualified as a vet nurse for over 4 years and over 10 years experience, still cries like a child when she loses a pet)
