Hi, just wondering if anyone can help me?
My partner has a permanent resident visa for Australia, obtained 3 years ago while he was still a dependent, through his parents. He has validated his visa and has been to Australia to visit. Me and my partner have been together 5 years and have lived together 'defacto' for 1 year (I have visited oz 3 times on tourist visa).
His visa runs out in 2 years. I understand that his visa is ok as long as he is in Australia before it expires and stays for 2 years to get RRV-Citizenship. Initially we were going to apply for me to go at the same time as him under the spouse-defacto visa.
What I am wondering is; is what I have said above all correct? And plus instead of coming in on a spouse visa; would I be able to enter on a working holiday visa ? Just for the first year we would like to travel around Australia and do casual work. We though we could make up are minds if we want to stay or not in that year. If we wanted to stay then we could apply for spouse visa. If we wanted to go back to UK we could just go back. Just we are really not sure what we want to do. We are both 23 and it is hard to decide. I don't mind spending the money on a spouse visa. Just thought by doing the working hol first to make our minds up we would only spend the money on a spouse visa if we were 100% sure.
The DIMA website says you can change to another visa off the working holiday visa. I understand the work is a casual nature on the working hol visa-thats fine. And I am under 30.
Sorry for such a long post. Thanks for your help!
