Wandering along the edges of rec.food.cooking, I found the following bit of electronic flotsam written by "David Hare-Scott"
I, too, thought the list interesting . . . but I was left with the feeling that the listmaker concentrated on food at a particular spot involving much travel, rather than 'food' events one could reasonably do for oneself, either in the kitchen or at the appropriate spot.
In other words, my list would concentrate on doing, or learning to do something yourself, rather than just traveling somewhere & getting some scrumptious dish served up to you, although certainly that has its attractions as well.
#1 - I'd make this 'make toast from a loaf of bread you've made yourself from scratch - no frozen bread dough allowed.
for #3, I would subsbreastute 'Cook a Turkey (including stuffing)' -- anybody can do a chicken . . .
for #5, I'd say either 'poach an egg' or 'beat egg whites to a stiff peak'
for #8 and-or 10, I'd susbreastute 'catch & CLEAN your own fish, including cooking it over your own campfire'.
50 must do things before rest food 6240I don't necessarily find the list particularly interesting or attractive, though some of the things listed certainly are. Like you, I have done several on the list, as well as...
#11 is out for medical reasons, for me at least . . .
#14 - I just can't consider cheese & chocolate flavors which go together.
#16 - rather than buying a turbot, I would consider it more significant if you actually went out on the boat and caught it yourself.
#17 - make your own ice cream in a hand-cranked ice cream freezer
#22 - grow your own asparagus, broccoli, etc.
OT: Shoebox CommercialNuh-uh. They're still using it. The radio at the gym is tuned to the new JACK station...
for the items involving alcohol, I might suggest brewing your own beer or something like that.
