I think Kenneth's comment was to SF's snotty reply, not to your suggestion. I, too, cut squares of wax paper or parchment paper, although I've never needed 500 at a time. I like squares for round things because the edges of the divider are easy to "grab" and pull apart.

Kenneth didn't specify the intended use, so I wasn't "thinking outside the box", either. Since a lot of people read these posts, I think the alternative idea was great. I have a couple of my own.

cheap, thin paper plates (100 ct for $1.50)

a box of parchment squares (like the grocery stores use for self service bulk cookies or donuts and like donut shops use). They come in "pop-up" boxes (like Kleenex tissues do). They also come in foil.

disposable food service gloves (the thin, baggy, "plastic-wrap" ones)

paper cake pan liners (which may be what 9" circles are)

paper "doilies" (like used in bakeries)

or, items can be made and frozen in a single layer on a cookie sheet (or whatever) and then stacked in a container without dividers.

It totally depends on for what a person needs a divider and how plain or fancy that divider needs to be.
