My husband hasn't eaten cooked spinach in 40 years -- and he ate some of the 'stuffing' last night. We;ll probably have leftovers tonight - there's not much stuffing and I'll probably cook some white rice and pour the sauce over it.
And thank you for backpedaling on your buttessment of the recipe, Karen, based on its strange components. The contest is about using Pillsbury products (running the gamut from flour to Alex knows what!) creatively. The categories change with each contest, but there's room for scratch cooking. They're interested in ease of preparation, quick delivery to table, visual appeal, and practical appeal.
And I have absolutely no buttociation with Pillsbury, financial or otherwise. I just think it's funny that people have gotten all hot and bothered over what someone did to earn a million bucks.
Be aware, too, that the recipe may have already been tweaked slightly from the way it was submitted -- I think my local paper had a story about that one year -- by the time it hit publication,
Remember the wonderful Oatmeal Carmelitas bar cookie? That's a Bake-Off recipe, and it originally called for unwrapping and melting caramel candies (I always used Kraft). If you find the recipe on the Pills site, you'll see that it calls for caramel-flavoried ice cream topping with 2-3 tbsp flour added to it.
