If it's been almost a year, I'd probably go - once a year is pretty much the norm for people of a certain age (I don't know how old you are), OR if you have had some problem in the past - like you have (the accident). What could it hurt?

I went once because I saw some really bright flashes in the outside corner of one eye (like really fast comet trails or something like that, only sharply defined)...but it was nothing. Sometimes with a retina problem, you can make it happen by moving your eyes really fast from one side to the other, although I don't know if an ophthalmologist would recommend doing that. You can inherit the tendency to get a detached retina. My dad had one, which I attributed to his whole-life clarinet playing (he was a professor of music).

Sometimes people get what are called "scintillating scotomas" - which is usually a zig-zag bright light that starts like a pinpoint and gets larger and larger in a circular outline form, until it finally disappears. You can google that term and get an idea of what those are. They are a form of migraine and usually not significant.

Sorry to run on like this.
