G'day Nancree,

When I was in the States nearly 30 years ago, I stumbled across ads for a mob called Collin Street Bakery which sold "deluxe fruit cakes" by mail. I ordered some that Christmas as gifts to folk who had put up with me while I was touring around -- and got rave reviews back from the recipients. So for the next couple of decades I ordered cakes for friends and rellies back here in Oz each Xmas. (Plus at least one or two for me! :)

They were never cheap, but with the decline of the Oz dollar versus the greenback (I was getting USD1.10 per AUD1.00 when I started this tradition :-) paralleling the decline in my own real income, I haven't ordered for a decade or so now. So I can't vouch for current quality.

Your request reminded me of all this, and out of curiosity I googled "Collin Street Bakery" which came up with:

It seems they still sell fruit cakes (I've only ever tried the "original") but have also somewhat expanded their line both inhouse and through cooperation with others. Typically, like most online retailers, the buggers don't list prices until you're ready to order, but I did notice that they offer free delivery to the continental States. (Postage to Oz was always a bit of a person from my POV.)

Cheers, Phred.
