Grinner I don't generally watch TV cooking shows, apart from Iron Chef. I think I might have seen Huey in action at some stage. Let me make myself feel really ancient by saying that I can remember encountering his excellent food when he first made a name for himself at The Lemon Tree back in 1976. We were both young and slim in those days!

I actually have a number of WW Cookbooks, and I have to say that they're OK. You can see the influences of fashion in some of them (bought maybe 20 years ago), but I've got one with a most amazing range of variations on scones and muffins that really doesn't date.

Margaret has by now gained official Grand Dame status, don't you think? I don't actually have her book, I make do with the divine Stephanie, but there's no denying the powerful influence Margaret had on a couple of generations.

Could you ever find one in a baker's shop? Certainly not round here. I do mine in a cbutterole. The next day I put mashed potato, not pastry, on top and heat it up - it's better on the second day anyway IMHO.

Christine
