Bleuch!!!!! Bad bad bad bad bad... to my tastes at least.
I think about the only 'on the larger size' CA producer I've really quite enjoyed wines from is Fetzer ('on the larger size'? America's 6th biggest, they claim). We used to get those in as the house wines at a place I worked at years ago, and I found them really very drinkable with quite a rich and full bodied flavour to a lot of the reds, rather than the thinner, more acidic nature I'd found with a lot of CA wines I'd tried.
Charles Shaw Wines 1120I've read this before, but it hasn't been my experience. I've never had a bad bottle. I've never had a great bottle, but never expected to. This is *really* cheap wine. I...
I like my BIG reds to be quite well oaked, lighter wines to me do not need it at all, or only mildly so. I have thoroughly enjoyed rather heavily oaked chardonay, but only from places where that grape grows with very big, round, full and honey-raisin -sweet characteristics, such as some parts of Aus. and other similar climes. From Europe? Gimme a fairly green Chablis in preference, please.
SE Aus. produces some HUGE flavours, from grapes that don't do anywhere near as well in their traditional homes, it would seem to me.
