The Ranger
There used to be a place in Niagara Falls NY that was popular. It specialized in steaks. It was very inexpensive and I would say that used low quality beef and marinated it make it chewable and give it some taste. They served a Tupperware bowl of salad with dinners, and lots of fresh Italian bread. The place was run by a couple of old women, and neither of them had the sort of manner that you would expect to maintain any sort of clientele. I saw one of them chase a couple out of the restaurant with a knife. I don't know what they said to her to push her over the line, but I got the impression that it didn't take much.
The place was a dump. My wife taught with a woman who went there for dinner every Friday night. She kept urging us to come, but I was reluctant to go because I had heard what a dump the place was, but I eventually gave it a try. The night I was there, there was no light in the men's washroom. No move was made to replace it. By the end of the evening there were wet footprints coming out of there.
Our friend was disappointed that she could not get us to return to that sty. When I ran into her a few years later I asked if she was still going to that place every Friday night. She wasn't. A few weeks after we were there with her, a cockroach climbed up her leg while she was eating.
