The thread was about a particular franchise. When I checked their web site there were less than a half dozen stores. Someone posted about a similar operation and when I checked their web site there were, I believe, 7 stores. Their franchises are exactly exploding into popularity across the country.
About the inspections? There are no inspection requirements for food cooked in your own home for your own use. There is no law broken. The underground economy is another matter. As much as I would like to see everyone pay their share of taxes so that the burden on me would be lower, I admit that I view things differently when it comes to having people work for me. If I insist on doing everything above board the guy has to pay taxes. He will be paying the taxes with the extra money that he charges me in order to cover the taxes. I end up paying the tax. I would rather not. Let him worry about getting caught. I have no legal obligation to make sure he declares money earned.
But we are talking about having someone come in and cook food to be eaten at home. As far as the local health department is concerned it is the same as cooking for yourself. It's a different matter if the food is being prepared in my kitchen to be sold to the public, whether I have hired someone to cook it or if I do it myself.
