On Mon, 28 Mar 2006, Meghan Noecker hmmm... let me toss out a few ideas on how to save money: 1. You've got...

If they make it that far. Most stay much longer and delay the receiving of their pension. If they are not reelected, even after serving the required number of years, they are not eligible because the rules state they must retire, not lose an election.

That's your opinion, perhaps, but that's not what every MP does. Some do, some don't. The ones who are good constituency people or who have competent staff (which isn't easy at the paltry salaries they pay) get reelected. Others hold down strongholds for their party and coast on the constituency stuff. Others actually care, attempt to do something and are successful whenever possible. Some requests from constituents are silly. I have worked for an MP (a long long time ago). I know what sort of requests you get.

Your MP's office is your personal champion to government. I have had as many successes dealing with government through my MP as I have had failures. NDP members, in my experience, are usually more active in favour of their constituents than liberals or conservatives.
