We just remodeled our kitchen and I went with the Jenn-Aire cooktop. No downdraft, just the cooktop. It has 5 burners of three different sizes. I love it with only a couple of exceptions.
If I were to buy again, I'd: 1) get one that a grill will fit nicely over two adjacent burners 2) be very easy to clean
Ours is stainless steel and shows every little speck of anything. It's getting easier to clean because we've learned the tricks buttociated with this cooktop - which way to follow the grain to maneuver around burners, etc. - but I'd consider much more carefully the cleaning aspects of another purchase.
The grill use isn't ALL that important, but is more of an annoyance. I can span two burners, but not two effective burners. The one large burner in the center works great but leaves cooler spots at either end, I'd prefer the grill to be the same temp over it's entire surface.
Think of how you and yours cook; research the various cooktops that will let you cook as you wish. There are many, many choices available so keep looking until you strike upon the right one for you.
Good Luck
