I'd run down the two of you but it's too damn hot. We just came back from a weekend in Crosslake - non-air-conditioned cabin at "the lake." Nice if you had your lawn chair in the lake, a real unpleasant woman if you didn't. Couldn't wait to bail -- having initially planned to leave after lunch, we were home by 11:15 a.m. Kids are still there. Beck was whining about the heat when we left -- another reason I wanted to get out of there. I don't like people talking about how hot it is to me.
OB Food: Brother Bill is in town and called to invite himself over for a meal. I asked him what made him so sure I wanted to see him. :-) When we were in Rancid City last month, my niece-in-law made these beans and they are pretty tasty. I'll have them tomorrow for lunch with my two bros and Rob, accompanied by ham sammiches and potato salad with homemade stick blender mayonnaise, chips, and limeade.
Ranch Beans
Amazing "pasta" recipeI just made this, and it was so amazingly tasty it would be great for low-carbers and "normal"(!) people alike, so thought I would share. You can adjust pretty much any of the...
1-1/2# bacon, diced, fried, and drained 1-1/'2 # ground beef, browned and drained 28-oz can baked beans (B&M brand on deck - and two cans, not one) 4 - 16 oz. cans of other beans of your choosing (I'm using black beans, pintos, garbanzos, and great northerns) 1 medium onion, diced 1/2 cup ketchup 3/4 cup brown sugar 1 tsp dry mustard 1/4 tsp oregano (why bother?)
Combine in a crock pot and cook for 5-6 hours on low. The meats (a pound each, instead of a pound and a half) are done, the onion is diced. I'll be rockin' and rollin' by 7:00 a.m. Rob'll be beside himself with glee when he sees these. -- -Barb Princess "If it's not worth doing to excess, it's not worth doing at all."
