In an odd way, the manager reminds me of a person whose party I once attended. I didn't want to go, but my DH insisted. The women and men were separated after dinner into different rooms. I decided the conversation was a bit lacking in the women's room so I decided to check out the men's room. I sat in a chair about 1 minute when the lady of the house said that I should join the women. She earlier in the evening had asked me loudly if I was having fun? As she said it, I could tell that she was so pleased with her social graces and the way the party was going that no one in the world could not be having fun at her party and my answer would definitely affirm her suspicions. But, perhaps I disappointed her when I joined the men's side. But I think of this whenever I hear, 'are you having fun?' I always want to add the word, 'yet.'
Oh, my, they wanted us to spend the night, it was horrendous weather, the next day was Sunday, and I was worried if we would have enough gas to get home, but I just couldn't stand another moment. We ran out of gas about 7 miles from home and the most wonderful policeman opened up the gas at the only gas station in town and filled our tank.
Today, a little older and wiser, I would not accept, no matter what DH wanted to do -- well, at least I'd put up more of an objection -- perhaps I should've said I'd come and then feign sickness -- Please! Please! Just Joking!!!!
As for the people who did say they would go and didn't show up, my dear Aunt always said this about certain people doing certain things, "To Hell with Them." She meant it. She never looked back. I try to remember these very simple words when someone I've been friendly with disappoints me. My aunt Ina: Dee Dee
