Honestly, nowadays I pretty much avoid processed pre-made foods. Since I went low carb, most of my food is "real". I make soups from scratch to include making my own stock-broth, generally from chicken wings or feet, or pork stock for beans or peas using fresh pork hocks, never smoked ham hocks. If I want a smoked flavor, I'll add some cooked bacon.

Lower salt, lower fat, low to no sugar, and I do love to cook from scratch! My shopping list is mostly fresh meat and fresh veggies, whole block or shredded cheese (shredded cheese freezes well and I only use it for cooking), as well as a very few dried herbs-spices. I also maintain a live herb garden.

But, things you were served as a child at the baby sitters still hold some fond memories. It just sucks as a regular part of a healthy diet.

My only time saving compromise lately has been a slight increase in the purchase of fresh frozen veggies. I don't even use a lot of canned stuff. Too much salt.
