Yech,,... gotta hate the root canal. The procedure can be bad enough but then the tooth gets brittle and snaps off and it costs a fortune for a crown.
I had to go to a specialist for root a canal job on a molar. It was extremely uncomfortable. I was laid back on the chair with a dental dam in my mouth, choking and suffocating for more than 45 minutes when the guy spots a crack in the tooth and says it is not worth finishing, says it is going to have to be pulled. He doesn't pull teeth. I had to go to a dental surgeon.
Two years later I need another major root canal. This time I express concerns about the discomfort and choking and gagging. No problem. Come in 45 minutes early and get sedated. It sounded like it was worth a try. I went in early. They sat me down in the chair, gave me a little pill to swallow and some magazines to read. I read for a while, looked at pictures for a while,, flipped pages idly for a while, then the buttistant came in and picked the magazine up off the floor ad asked if I was ok.
The endondits came in and asked how I was doing. Somewhere along the line I felt something and thought to myself that it was pain, but didn't really care. Then she said she was almost done and a few minutes later they poured me out of the seat and helped me to the car so my wife could drive me home. She had worked on me for over 2 hours.
Sedation is the way to go. Best money I ever spent.
