Ketchup on Sandwiches

Bob Terwilliger

Well, I might make an exception for meatloaf sandwiches. I never even thought of them because it's not something I eat. I have had the occasional meatloaf sandwich over the years - maybe 2 in the last 40 years. The sandwich would have to be hot, though, because I'm not fond of cold meatloaf, and then ketchup would be okay. But I think I would still prefer mayo.

I don't like mustard on sandwiches but I do love mustard. I mainly eat it with cheese and crackers and with grilled sausages of many types. But if I use the sausage in a *sandwich* then I go back to ketchup.

I've never understood why people want to put butter on sandwiches (except for grilled cheese, etc., on the outside to grill it). Especially meat sandwiches! I love butter as much if not more that the next person, and I use tons of it on all sorts of things but never on a sandwich. The only exception is something like a cucumber sandwich, or something that has no meat or mayo on it.

But then it wouldn't be a BLT, would it? It would be a BLEAOTT, or whatever. Not that it wouldn't be good, well except for the avocado and oysters, but it would no longer be a BLT.

I think the BLT with mayo is one of the perfect foods. Just the right balance of flavor and texture contrasts, and besides there's hardly anything that is not a dessert that is not good with bacon in it.

Actually, these days I like to mix ketchup and Thai Sweet Chilli Sauce (for chicken) about half and half and use that on everything I used to use ketchup on. On hotdogs I also add a tiny bit of sweet pickle relish and lots of chopped onions. Unless I have sauerkraut on it. Or unless I have a chili cheese dog with onions. Kate
