Rubbed and Washed RibsNote: I didn't say *barbequed* ribs! I cook these in a covered gas grill. There are both simpler and more complicated rubs that this, but we like this one. Vary...
Our parade's route is steps from my apartment but I'll probably sit this one out (as I've done with the past several). I've seen lots of them over the years and after a time there is a "much of a muchness" about them...
Ten or so years ago I'd have a bunch of visitors in (many from St. Louis actually) and have a house party for the whole weekend, a big brunch, etc. Now that I'm a bit older I generally disdain crowd scenes, especially scenes that include flocks of screaming queens (people in generally work my nerves but ESPECIALLY queens). The whole "gay scene" thang is so over AFAIC, I prefer a mix of all kinds of people and interests. The corner tavern I hang out at has a nice of gays, straights, and people of all types, e.g. old to young, all occupations from attorneys and judges and cops to professional female impersonators, ex - jailbirds and so on. People sometime bring their little kids in. It's all mixed - up and so very interesting and we all get along great, with no attitude (if a noobie comes in a mis - treats a regular, that noobie WILL be thrown out and told not to come back...lol). I like it that way.
Of course I live in the middle of a heavily gay nabe in the third - largest city in the US, so I have the luxury of having this attitude. Many in smaller locales do not and so I do appreciate what I have...
I've been to several pride parades in St. Louis, they are of a manageable size and I like the after - parade doings in the park...
