OT: I'm a Southerner now! 127

LOL Of course there's "All of ya'll" I never quite understood the whole ya'll thing. My father decided to move us to Memphis while he was on a house-hunting trip to Texas. He got drunk in an airport bar and someone told him there was good bbutt fishing in Tennessee... next thing we knew we lived here. I think he went bbutt fishing exactly once.

BUT! Here's a good story about my father, and this one is for -L who thinks I hate my father. A couple of houses down from us was a little girl who had leukemia. And she'd never been fishing. My dad, he likes to walk around and chat with folks, so he'd been walking and talking to her father who told him she wanted to go fishing. I was 16 at the time and this little girl was about 11 years old. Maybe 10.

Dad took her and her father fishing. Hauled his bbutt boat out with his fishing gear and drove them to some lake. I don't remember what lake it was. What I *do* remember was she caught a fish. And I remember her walking up the driveway that afternoon, holding my father's hand and saying "I caught a fish!" She was bald from chemotherapy and was wearing a kerchief over her head and lots of sunscreen. But she looked at my dad like he'd made the sun shine because he took her fishing.

The girl died about 6 months later. The leukemia wasn't something she could get over, but I'll never forget the look on her face; she was so thrilled! Nor the look on her fathers' face at seeing his daughter so happy and full of life. A simple fishing trip. Go figure. Sometimes it's truly the simple things that make life wonderful.
