I'm very cautious with any type of pest control and really don't like the idea of resorting to contagion but the tree rats are out of control :(
We don't have dogs and there is a pretty strict leash law here so dogs those little Taco Bell dogs. She refused to put them on a leash despite being charged several times as being contrary to the by-law. After cleaning up doggy does from the garden several times AND actually catching them in the act I decided she needed a wake-up call BUT I didn't want to do anything to hurt the dogs only scare them. I got a few old fashioned mouse traps and carefully set them but upside down. The effect was the traps would go off and scare the dogs but not hurt them. She was so ticked off but it solved the problem. I now use another method - motion activated sprinkler. It scares critters off with no chance of harm. Those dang tree rats will sit there with their little towels waiting for their free shower.
Tree rats are the most destructive critters I know! I have a small greenhouse that I'm just dreading the day until they get in.
