Call me old fashioned, but I consider my telephone to be for my convenience, not for telephone solicitation. I should not have to resort to being a miserable old curmudgeon to avoid being harbutted by telephone solicitors.
I have put my name and number on a Do Not Call Registry. In the case I referred to, I had already had three calls from the same number in one day and after the third I called back and got the number for their Do Not Call registry.
My cordless phone does not have call display on it. I have a special long distance ring. My wife was expecting long distance calls and she and I were both hoping to hear from our son who had been left a message.
My son worked for a call centre for a while but refused to do out calls. Because he had worked in one I felt sorry for the callers, but I just got sick of them. I tried to cut them off without being nasty, but this one was exceptional. They called me THREE TIMES and hung up on me. That is three times that I had to drop what I was doing to get the phone and then have dead air and then have them hang up on me. Screw them.
I blame the automated system that dials numbers and then flashes all your information to a computer screen in front of an available operator and hangs up on you if they can't find an operator. That is inexcusable and I will continue to rant at whoever does that to me.
